Over the years, Vacheron Constantin has established the retrograde date as a distinctive complication in its timepieces. The inaugural Vacheron Constantin retrograde date watch was the reference 47245, crafted in the year 2000 (the "245" denoting the company's 245th anniversary celebrated in that year). This timepiece, part of the Patrimony collection, boasted a round case and featured a day-of-the-week display at six o'clock, accompanied by a 31-day retrograde date display. The reference 47245 laid the foundation for subsequent Vacheron retrograde date watches, characterized by a 31-day track spanning the upper half of the dial from 9:00 to 3:00, with a space beneath available for additional features like a day of the week indication, moonphase, or other complications.
